What is a Neuro-Diverse Person?

 

Neurodiversity includes conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder, (OCD), Dyspraxia and Dyslexia. Neurodivergent is a nonmedical term that describes people whose brain develops or works differently for yet unknown reasons. This means the person has different strengths and struggles from people whose brains develop or work more typically (Neurotypical)” Cleveland Clinic. Autism was first coined and studied by Psychiatrists Leo Kanner (USA) in the 1940’s and Hans Asperger (Austria) in the 1930’s. “ADHD was first documented in the 1960s and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) formally recognized it as a mental disorder, and in the 1980s, the diagnosis became known as “attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity”.
