Repetition, (Train From Birkdale), First Piece.

For my first piece I decided on train journeys as a theme before I settled on a neurodiverse overall theme. I Decided on trains sounds – because of the rhythmical nature and the sense of repetition liked by some people on the Autistic spectrum. This concept was one of the first used by Schaeffer. I found this concept interesting as it carries a theme as appose to just random sounds, also it is taking the listener on a Journey in the subjective sense as is the actual train journey objective. For the first piece I went out on a train journey and recorded sounds of the train, the Tannoy, the doors opening and closing, the train approaching and departing, the sounds while riding the train. I felt that my piece needed a theme, and this was perfect.  I arranged these sounds into my recording studio and began to create some sound objects. Like the Amon Tobin piece Kitchen Sink, I have tried to create a rhythmical piece to mimic the sound of the trains movement as I went on my journey.

I later went to Lime street station and got more atmospheric type samples of trains standing idle and the crowd and Tanoy.

I altered some of these sound objects using effects in the studio such as pitch shift and reversing the sounds. I also made use of the sampling instrument in the Logic studio. To which I added a rhythmical track using a sequencing keyboard.
