Conclusion
Neurodevelopmental conditions can detract a lot from day-to-day life, but with the right tools and methods, good things can be achieved and these conditions, as can be shown, can add to the quality of life and anything we set our minds too. And May even be a positive factor when it comes to the creative arts or as has been seen in other areas of achievement such as the sciences and any area which requires creative and diverse thinking. Studies on Autistic and ADHD behaviors when it comes to music are many and varied. The brain is a very complex organ and is difficult to study even with the practitioner of the mind and testing like MRI. Studies have shown that the neurodiverse mind may act differently when confronted with or creating music. This is seen in remarkable ways with the likes of the autistic savant and blind autistics showing incredible musical skills and abilities. Brain imaging has also gone a long way to showing differences in a negative and positive light with the ADHD brain.
Music and mental health are something that I have approached in the past with my electronic music composition and with this research I have found that this concept is not so rare, as seen with the Dhomont pieces. It seems music is a valuable escape from life’s problems including mental concerns, whether that is schizophrenia or neurodiverse conditions. And so, creating music may be a valuable outlet for people whose mental health may be in question.
I feel my disabilities can help me in my own field to a big extent. If my brain was not wired in this way, would I be as creative and resourceful when tasked by a muse to create something? As I move forward with my research, I would like to present a positive picture of life with this disability through my art and show the world what can be achieved despite the neurological cards being stacked against you.
